The SEN Code of Practice
We have a very dedicated team at Beighton Nursery Infant School. We are committed in supporting all children, including those with a wide range of additional and special needs.
We aim to identify these additional needs as early as possible, enabling us to put the appropriate support and measures into place as soon as possible. Some children come to our school with clearly identified needs, however for others, their specific difficulties may become more apparent over time. For some children these needs are ongoing and for others it may be a shorter term intervention.
Our top priority is to ensure that the day to day teaching for our children is right; this is what we call quality first teaching. This will allow children to move forwards with their learning and maximise their potential in every way possible.
Through detailed and regular monitoring of academic progress, including children’s social and emotional development we are able to target our support in a range of ways, individually tailoring this support for each child. This can include additional in-class support, small group support or even one-to-one support.
By working closely with parents and children, communicating, listening and understanding their individual wishes and feelings we can ensure every child feels included, happy and confident in all aspects of their primary education.
As well as providing a wide range of help in school, we link closely with other outside agencies to provide support for our children and their families. We have developed effective links with the Speech and Language Service, the Autism Support Service and Educational Psychologists. These services can provide advice and assessment when needed but also the reassurance to parents that school are catering well for our most vulnerable pupils.

Family Intervention Support (FIS) can provide a wide range of services for our children/families and when required provide support outside of school. We have a wealth of experience to draw upon and a determined dedication to get it right for every pupil in school regardless of barriers and/or ability.

SSENDIAS - Sheffield SEN & Disability Information Advice and Support
Sheffield SEN & Disability Information Advice and Support (SSENDIAS) provides impartial, confidential information, advice & support to parents/carers of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities on a range of topics. They operate across the city and only take referrals from parents/carers.
SSENDIAS are able to offer advice and support in the following areas;
Explaining the legal and statutory processes, including Education, Health and Care (EHC) Needs Assessments.
Explaining national and local SEN policies and your rights and responsibilities around these.
Help to prepare for and support at meetings such as annual reviews and tribunals.
Help with communication between you and other services.
Discussing your options and the pros and cons of each.
Advice on how and when to make a complaint.
Giving support and advice if your child is excluded.
Signposting to other relevant services, local support groups, activities and benefits support.
